Welcome to the IMBER Data Home page!

The IMBER Data Management Committee (DMC) has been working to make Data Management a useful aid to your research, not the "chore" it is so often made out to be.

Good data management has many benefits, to speed up your research, improve your data sets, enhance your publications and increase your visibility to other researchers.

Researchers are so often put off by not knowing where to begin, so we have created a CookBook to take you step by step through recipes of how to do good data management.

The Number 1 rule is not to put it off! Plan data management right from the start of your project. See Data Policy for an overview and the CookBook for details. Powerpoint tutorials from the IMBER IMBIZO are also available HERE.

We are also building an IMBER Metadata Portal to provide an overview of all IMBER endorsed and related projects. This needs YOU to create the DIF record for your project (it's easy, see CookBook) whose value is the international exposure it will give to your project.

We all need to produce publications, but do not neglect the data sets that underlie those publications. Remember that a high quality, well documented data set may be a more objective legacy than publications, as it is not biassed by a personal interpretation!

May your research be fruitful and your data sets a valuable legacy for other researchers.
