WOCE Hydrography Manual to be updated
Earlier this year, the IOCCP, CLIVAR, and the joint SOLAS-IMBER Carbon Coordination Group formed the Global Ocean Ship-based Repeat Hydrographic Investigations Panel (GO_SHIP) to develop a strategy for a sustained program of interdisciplinary repeat hydrography, post-CLIVAR. One of the Terms of Reference of the Panel is to review and provide guidance on the need to update the WOCE hydrographic manual (1994), including a review and update of data quality control issues.
The WOCE hydrographic manual chapters are available on-line at CCHDO (http://whpo.ucsd.edu/manuals.htm). Information about GO_SHIP is available on the IOCCP site (http://www.ioccp.org/ > hydrography > International Advisory Group). Any questions or comments about this activity should be sent to Maria Hood at m.hood@unesco.org.

Improved seawater thermodynamics: How should the proposed change in salinity be implemented? The SCOR/IAPSO Working Group 127 on Thermodynamics and Equation of State of Seawater (http://www.scor-int.org/Working_Groups/wg127.htm) seeks comments from the oceanographic community on the adoption of a new salinity standard. Please send comments directly to Trevor McDougall, preferably by 29 February 2008.

Comparative Analysis of Marine Ecosystem Organization (CAMEO).
NOAA and NSF will solicit proposals to initiate CAMEO research, with future funding depending on Congressional budget appropriations for FY 2009 and beyond. A detailed program plan will emerge to focus research at later stages of CAMEO. http://cameo.noaa.gov/
New European project : MEECE funded to increase ecosystem modelling predictive capabilities
MEECE (Marine Ecosystem Evolution in a Changing Environment) is an FP7 Large Scale Integrated Project (IP) funded under ‘Dynamic of marine ecosystem in a changing environment’ topic, and a direct output of EUR-OCEANS PIs collaboration.

Survey Request: Earth Observation Data Integration and Analysis Product "JAMSTEC (Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology)" is developing the technologies for the practical application of the Earth observation data under "DIAS (Data Integration and Analysis System, http://www.diasjp.org/ (in Japanese))" which is a part of Japanese national science project.
Now JAMSTEC provides the sample data and sends out questionnaires so as to improve the data product and the way to provide the data. The online survey and the sample data are found at: http://www.jamstec.go.jp/e/medid/dias/index.html
