GIS Intern - Coastal East Africa GIS, WWF, Washington, DC


A vast array of GIS data exists for the Coastal East Africa but this data is scattered across several organizations and locations.

World Wildlife Fund seeks an intern with excellent GIS and data collation and management skills to assemble and organize this data and make it usable for various projects and to build simple tools and databases that will make this data easy to discover and use. The successful applicant will be proficient in GIS (specifically ArcGIS), and have good, analysis and GIS database skills. Strong communication skills, writing, and attention to detail are required.

Experience and/or interest in online mapping tools such as ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, Google Maps Engine are a positive. Knowledge of programming and web systems is also an added advantage. Applicant should be pursuing a bachelor or master’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Biology, Ecology, or Information Science. Intern will be based at the WWF US headquarters in Washington DC.

Duration and Time: May to August 2014.

Internship is unpaid. Applicant should demonstrate that he/she can receive school credit or compensation from another source (grant, work study).
