3 March 2008: IMBER Town Hall Meeting during ASLO Meeting (Orlando, FL, USA) 21-24 April 2008: Climate driving of marine ecosystem changes (CLIMECO)…Training for young marine scientists (Brest, France). We received 190 applications from young marine scientists. The final list of the 30 selected candidates shows gender balance (19 females and 11 males) as well as geographical balance, all continents being represented (11 Europeans, 12 Americans, 3 South Africans, 2 South Americans, 1 Japanese and 1 Australian ). http://www.imber.info/CLIMECO_home.html 5-6 May 2008: IMBER project will be holding its annual Scientific Steering Committee Meeting in Cape Town, South Africa in cunjunction with the 4th IGBP Congress. http://igbp2008.co.za/index.php?id=55

Improved seawater thermodynamics: How should the proposed change in salinity be implemented? The SCOR/IAPSO Working Group 127 on Thermodynamics and Equation of State of Seawater (http://www.scor-int.org/Working_Groups/wg127.htm) seeks comments from the oceanographic community on the adoption of a new salinity standard. Please send comments directly to Trevor McDougall, preferably by 29 February 2008.
