IMBER News

GLOBEC-IMBER Transition Task Team: The GLOBEC-IMBER Transition Task Team was formed to facilitate the transition to a single ocean research projected in the IGBP structure after 2009. The Task Team met for the first time in Reading, UK in July 2008 to begin drafting a supplement to the IMBER Science Plan to define additional science to be tackled by IMBER following the conclusion of GLOBEC.

SOCAT-II Meeting Report Released
The Surface Ocean CO2 Atlas (SOCAT) project is developing a common format dataset of all publicly available surface CO2 data. This compilation currently includes data from more than 10 countries, producing an initial database composed of more than 1250 cruises from 1968 to 2007 with approximately 4.5 million measurements of various carbon parameters. The 2nd level quality-controlled dataset will be published in late 2009, and will be made available through Live-Access Server. The project will also develop a gridded product of monthly surface water fCO2 means on a 1° x 1° grid with no temporal or spatial interpolation using the 2nd level quality-controlled global surface ocean fCO2 data set.
In June of this year, the IOCCP, along with CarboOcean and the SOLAS-IMBER Joint Carbon Group, held a 2nd technical meeting to discuss 2nd level QC and regional synthesis issues. Report from the meeting: http://www.imber.info/C_WG/SOCAT2_Final-1.pdf
