  • IMBER is very pleased to welcome Dr. Yi Xu as the new Deputy Executive Officer in the China Regional Project Office

Yi Xu

I recently moved back to Shanghai, China from the USA to become the Deputy Executive Officer at the IMBER Regional Project Office, hosted by SKLEC, East China Normal University. My research background is in marine biophysical interactions, ocean modelling and climate change impacts. Before coming to IMBER, I did my Ph.D in oceanography at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey in 2012. After that, I did postdoc research at the Coastal Ocean Observation Lab, at Rutgers and later at the Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Science Department, North Carolina State University. I am very interested in combining observations and ocean modelling to understand the biophysical interactions and impacts of climate change on marine biogeochemical cycles, which relates to several of the IMBER’s science themes.

My main objective in my new position, is to work with the International Project Office to further increase the IMBER community, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. I am looking forward to working with the IMBER IPO staff and the Scientific Steering Committee members. I think it will be a new and very interesting start to my professional career in China.
