IMBER News

IMBER IMBIZO II was a great success!

IMBER IMBIZO II was held in Crete (11-14 October 2010) at the Cretaquarium and Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR).

About 120 participants discussed on the current knowledge and future priorities on

  1. The effect of varying element ratios on community structure at low trophic levels and food quality at mid and high trophic levels;
  2. Large-scale regional comparisons of marine biogeochemistry and ecosystem processes – research approaches and results;
  3. Sensitivity of marine food webs and biogeochemical cycles to enhanced stratification.

A full report of the meeting will be published in the next IMBER Newsletter.
The presentations will be available online soon. Please check the IMBIZO II web site on a regular basis.

Dry Cruise Workshop

On 10 October 2010, the IMBIZO II participants had the opportunity to participate in the DRY CRUISE workshop, co-chaired by Alberto Piola (IMBER SSC) and Cyndy Chandler (BCO-DMO). The presenters illustrated the benefits of good data management practices for scientists. They also provided the IMBER community with useful resources and tools to facilitate data sharing. A detailed report will be published in the next IMBER Newsletter.
The plenary speaker's presentations can be viewed on the IMBIZO II Web site.
